Mine are:

Cafe Cibo on Gouger Street.
Al Frescoes on East Rundle Street.

and

Atlas Corner/Lucia's the far west corner of the Adelaide Market.

Brilliant!!!

  • East End: Al Fresco's would be my first choice, too. Reason: social networks, mainly (kid's friend used to work there and the habit lingers), but convenience is a factor, along with good pizza, cakes, coffee. And I can usually still get an outside table there without being totally enveloped in cigarette smoke.

Hindley Street: ok, I'm old. I still pine for the old Flash Gelateria, before they moved across the road...

Market Precinct: on market days, craving coffee, The Big Table (had late lunch there Friday - brown rice lepinja with smoked turkey, oakleaf lettuce, avocado, and cranberry sauce and baked cheesecake with lots of lemon zest - yummm). Otherwise, I'd be more likely to be at any one of a dozen (two dozen?) Asian places for Laksa or Hokkien Mee or something like.

North Terrace: the State Library Cafe. I liked the food and the quiet corner it was tucked away in before the renovation - both the ambience and the food have been a little "modernised" since, but it's still good. And it still beats the Art Gallery (too glitzy/noisy) and the Museum (brash/often crowded) and the one near the Migration Museum (dark/gloomy).

Local: Cafe Va Bene, Gorge Road, Campbelltown. They do a great Penne Puttanesca. Good pizza and gelati.
Buongiorno, The Parade, Norwood. Breakfast heaven!

Squoonchy late-night exotica: Spats, Goodwood; The Elephant Walk, North Adelaide.
