What is unique about Adelaide?

And what do you see as the future trends for this lovely city of ours?

I personally imagine that the city's culture will flipflop into some extremely radical cultural changes in the next twenty years. I foresee the emergence of a multi-ethnic government will be the first step, then, supported by desalination and biotech farming technology, I foresee within the next decade or two a massive emigration push into Adealide (high-rise apartments) and into the desert areas. I foresee an intensely Asian culture here, predominantly Chinese. I foresee a stronger Russian influence here also.

That's my crystal ball.

What I believe is unique about Adelaide is the careful alchemy of conservatism and radicalism. It seems to me that the population is not ready for radicalism and that the two really uniquely lovely areas of the region, Kangaroo Island and the Barossa Valley, are havens for unusual people who are quietly creating a marvellous alternative culture, which I suppose will emerge in coming years and merge with the conservative mainsteam Adelaide culture.

What do you think? What are your responses, ideas, suggestions, intuitions, precognitions?

Rgds,

PB.
